Chapter Thirteen

SAM AND WINNIE HAD just showered together and were casually re-dressing from clothing flung about in his bedroom.

“Olivia’s at daycare today. I thought—if you wanted—we could get the last of your stuff from your apartment and bring it here.”

Winnie finished buttoning her last button, then ran her fingers down the front, making sure she’d caught the edges of the hems together evenly and had buttoned them straight. “I’m fine with that.”

“Are you? Or am I pushing you too much?”

He did seem a bit nervous since she’d wisped from the city, and that was to be expected. Of course, there was the dilemma of Sarah’s upcoming death also. And the fact that she still hadn’t told Chris about it.

“You’re not pushing me, Sam. I love you. I want to be here with you and Livvie.”

“It’ll be a good surprise for her to come home and see your stuff. To know you’re here all the time.”

“I only want the beanbag I bought her for her room. And the chair she and I sit in when we’re in the living area. It has some good memories. We can put it near the window. I hope it won’t be too crowded,” she fretted, knowing he kept his house sparsely furnished. It helped her to move around easier.

“If it’s crowded, we’ll take out my chair that’s already there.”

“I don’t want you to get rid of your stuff.”

“Winnie, we’re merging. Not dumping everything that makes you...you.”

He was right, of course, so she nodded. “Just my clothing, then. I don’t have any kitchen stuff that you don’t already have. No bathroom stuff that you don’t already have. In fact, most of my things are already here.”

He smiled. “Yeah. I loved that they’d sneak in one at a time.”

Winnie smiled. Mostly it was Olivia, she realized.

Winnie, may I bring this blanket with us? It’s so soft.

Of course, sweetness.

Winnie, may I bring this lamp? Daddy’s house just has one.

Anything you’d like, little one.

Winnie, do you mind if I bring this umbrella and towel to my house? It would be perfect to go to the beach.

Of course, baby girl.

“It seems our daughter knew what she was doing more than we did,” Winnie said.

Sam smiled and caught her to him, inhaling the scent of her hair. “I love you so much.”

She hugged him to her.

They took the same vehicle back to the main hub, where Sam punched a series of commands onto a control panel.

“It’s a hover-cart,” he explained. “We’ll be able to load up the bean-bag, the chair, anything else you wish to take. And once we get it to the house, we’ll be able to get rid of anything we don’t want, like an extra chair or two. Stuff like that.”

She nodded.

“And here’s our muscle.”

“That’s us.” Reson grinned.

All three men began posing, Covet flexing to show his biceps, Blaze hunching over to show his abs, and Reson squatting in a lunge to show his impressive thighs.

Winnie couldn’t help but giggle.

“Don’t you worry none, little female,” Reson said. “We got this.
